The President’s Message - 3rd Quarter 2009
Welcome to summer! May has been a wonderful month for celebrating endings such as graduations or end-of-school picnics and new beginnings with the start of summer vacations and warmer weather.
ISM has extended the Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) Exam registration deadline. This certification is a globally recognized credential promising to boost your competitive edge in today's job market. .ISM is accepting exam registrations through September 30, 2009. All exams (including retakes) must be completed by December 31, 2009. See our website link at www.napmaz.org for further information or contact ISM Customer Service at 800/888-6276, option 8.
Did you know ISM offers two free online classes to challenge your skill set for its members? For details peruse the ISM website. While on the website, take a few minutes to update your profile, sign up some of the electronic newsletters, and join one of the many ISM groups and Forums. Take advantage of your member discounts for education and seminars. There are 30 different CSPM exams. Test your skills at the Knowledge Center online course menus applicable to the CPSM review courses. Check out the web-based discussion forums when members can pose questions or help others. Are you looking to network and keep current in your procurement speciality? ISM is looking for volunteers to moderation discussion forum groups.
In June a site tour and presentation at The Boeing Company is planned. Attendees will hear a presentation from site management and tour the moving Apache manufacturing line and distribution center. You’ll have an opportunity to purchase souvenirs from the company store. Our goal is to offer additional site tours of local businesses during the next year. If you’d like to showcase your company, or schedule a special event or meeting though your employer, please contact any board member.
We have an exciting year planned for 2009-2110. 2015 is ISM’s 100 year anniversary. Exciting news for our members is the International Supply Management Conference & Educational Exhibit will be held in Phoenix at the convention center. Our affiliate will be asked to partner with ISM. Plan on volunteering during the International Supply Management Conference and Educational Exhibit in May, 2015.
Thank you to those members who ran for volunteer positions on the NAPM-AZ board. I appreciate the willingness and talent of our volunteers to assist our affiliate in leadership roles. The new board members are invited to attend the June 11th board meeting held at the Hilton. Our new board begins their terms in July with incoming president Cynthia Alexander. It has been my pleasure to serve as NAPM-AZ as your 2008-2009 President this year.
