The President’s Message -
3rd Quarter
2008
Welcome to the new NAPM-Arizona year. The
new Board of Directors were voted on and approved in May. Your new board is
excited to represent your interests this year. I’m sure you’ll welcome and
support your new board members and let our chapter continue to grow in the
years to come.
We begin an exciting new year with
high interest in ISM’s Certified Professional in Supply Management
certification. The CPSM pilot test program sponsored by NAPM-AZ was held in
February and March at ISM headquarters in Tempe. The testing program was
officially rolled out at the 93rd ISM Annual International
Conference and Educational Exhibit in May in St. Louis, Missouri. There are
over 400 new CPSMs granted to date with numerous people in the Phoenix area.
The first CPSM was presented to
Michael Haynes at the June NAPM-AZ meeting by ISM headquarters staff. How
nice to be number one! The CPSM exam is available for computer-based
testing through Pearson View. ISM is currently translating the exam into
Korean with Japan as the next target for translation.
NAPM-AZ also sponsored a pilot bridge
exam for qualified applicants held in August, 2008. Train the Trainer
classes are being offered in September at ISM in Tempe at no cost.
Comprehensive training and courseware for the CPSM exams will be given to
attendees at no cost in the Train the Trainer classes.
ISM’s Board of Directors adopted
several changes during the year, some were as follows:
-
Changed the name of the
Certification Committee to Professional Credential Committee
-
Name change for the
Committee on Social Responsibility to the Committee on Sustainability
and Social Responsibility
-
Recognition of supporting
local affiliates by presenting, mentoring and encouraging employee
participation
-
Granted affiliate status
to ISM-China
-
Approved ISM’s
international expansion recommendations
Each year your NAPM-AZ board holds a
planning session to brainstorm ideas and best practices. We try to
determine best-in-class performance using other affiliates as a benchmark to
see where we stand among our peers. The planning session allows process
improvements to ensure each member receives top value. We listen to your
feedback and discuss ways to enhance your membership each month. Some of
our top goals from the annual planning session for 2008-2009 are
-
Hold a joint meeting with
APICS
-
Benchmark other
affiliate’s best practices for adoption
-
Target a membership drive
to local firms
-
Develop networking
opportunities
-
Recognition of member
achievements and successes
-
Retain current membership
-
Create an educational year
to allow you to lead within supply management
-
Showcase a local company
site tour for members in 2009
This would not have been
possible without your NAPM-Arizona Board of Directors. Your new Board are
members who graciously volunteer their time for the improvement of our
organization. We appreciate your continued support with membership in NAPM-Arizona.
We look forward to seeing you all throughout the upcoming year at our
monthly meetings.
Best regards,
Sheryl Hand C.P.M, MBA
President
2008-2009
