The President’s Message -
2nd Quarter
2009
Happy New
Year to all and what a year it has been so far for NAPM-AZ! I would like to
take this opportunity to publicly thank our Board of Directors whose
diligence and hard work allow us to have such an outstanding affiliate. It
is my pleasure to work with this dedicated group of members. I would also
like to thank all of the volunteers that help make NAPM-Arizona a thriving,
educational organization.
So far this
year we have had some great speakers and topics for our monthly meeting
programs; “Using Resilience in Times of Change, Dr. Jan Northup, “Risk
Management” with Omid Ghamami. We heard from The Greater Business Economic
Council, John Krueger and also from the Arizona Business Journal we had Don
Henninger. We held a seminar in October “Pre-Negotiation Planning and Total
Cost Analysis” with Omid Ghamami. We also had a once in a lifetime
experience offered to us in October when we were welcomed to the Palo Verde
Power Plant. In November, NAPM-Arizona also awarded two Harry Wiggins/NAPM-AZ
$1,000 scholarships to Jacob Ellis and to Sharon Lee based on resume,
experience, essay answer, need and community service.
Our annual
January Economic Forecast will be on January 28, 2010 with Wayne Stutzer
which I know we all look forward to. Please make sure to make your
reservations for this event early.
On December
3, 2009, ISM mailed all of its members a ballot requesting a change to its
bylaws. The change, if it is approved, would allow sales people to join
ISM. Because our NAPM-Arizona bylaws must mirror ISM’s, we would then also
be required to open our membership to people in sales. This change would
alter the composition of the membership of NAPM-Arizona in a way that the
Board of Directors believes would be detrimental to the affiliate. The NAPM-Arizona
Board of Directors recommends that you vote against this change.
These issues are often decided by a small number of votes. Online voting
opened December 3, 2009; deadline to receive ballots (by mail, fax or
online) is Thursday, January 14, 2010 by 11:30 a.m. MST. We urge all of you
to respond by voting and returning the ballot in a timely manner.
2010 holds
great promise for each of us. I hope you participate in as many programs
offered by NAPM-AZ as possible. The Board of Directors and I intend to
provide opportunities for our members to learn and grow in the profession.
We welcome your feedback, input and assistance.
Best wishes
to you in the New Year!
Cynthia Alexander, C.P.M., CTE
President
