The President’s Message -
2nd Quarter
2009
Here it is April and my favorite time of the year. It’s one of the best
months in the dessert with flowers in bloom and orange trees covered in
blossoms. Spring just isn’t long enough in the Valley of the Sun.
Are you planning on attending 94th annual International Supply
Management Conference in Charlotte, NC next month? The annual conference
advertises more education than ever before offering over 100 educational
sessions, many led by purchasing professionals. The exhibit hall features
more than 100 suppliers with extended booth hours this year. Leadership
training for affiliate officers and directors takes place the day before
conference. The CPSM exams are being offered during the week.
ISM presents its Semiannual Economic Forecast at the event followed up with
analysis by two economists. The J. Shipman Award is presented during the
conference sessions honoring an individual’s career. The winner of ISM’s
Commercial Challenge video contest written, directed and produced by you
promoting any aspect of ISM, benefits, or supply management will be
announced. A tough economy is not the time to sit back and hope for the
best. Come and reload your skills toolbox at the world’s premier event of
supply chain management professionals and create your own excellence in
action plan.
This is the time to consider volunteering for position on the NAPM-AZ
board. Your incoming president Cynthia Alexander is looking for a few good
candidates to round out the 2009-2010 board. For information and to
volunteer, please see the board requirements and submission form under the
board calendar. The annual elections are held at the May meeting.
One of NAPM-AZ goals was to showcase a local company for members in 2009.
I’m proud to announce a presentation and tour of the Boeing facility in
June. At this event you’ll learn what happens at the Boeing facility in East
Mesa and how they support the local community. You’ll hear from three site
leaders and they discuss their specific Lean strategies and initiative and
how they come together to provide value to serve this $60 billion aircraft
manufacturer. You’ll tour the Boeing Distribution Center and the Apache
Helicopter assembly line. This event is limited to 40 people. All attendees
must be US citizens and show a current government issued photo ID.
Check out our website at
