"The Five Best Supply Chain Management Practices in Use Today" (It’s Not Just Purchasing or Supply Anymore)

with Mike Babineaux

Supply Management has finally come of age to the point that it is considered a true "profession." Any true profession has a set of skills, knowledge and best practices that distinguishes the successful, leading edge professionals from the crowd. This presentation will introduce and explore five of these best practices:

  1. Strategic Goal Alignment – Goals, objectives and strategies of all functions of an organization are complimentary

  2. Procurement Strategy Development – The processes of sourcing and acquisition of specific goods or services are appropriate

  3. Supplier Integration – Using the expertise of others, as an example, will make the whole greater than any of its parts

  4. Teaming Strategies – Bringing different talents and interests to bear on a supply management opportunity fosters a better results

  5. Performance Measurement – Knowing the direction of performance and the cause of poor performance will go a long way towards managing it
